Self-Performed Construction Services

With our in-house construction services, we don’t just manage the work—we build key scopes with our own crews.

Owners choose self-performed construction when they want tighter control over quality, schedule, safety, and accountability. Carl A. Nelson & Company is a self-performing builder—meaning we subcontract only a portion of the work while completing critical scopes with our own crews under the same project leadership and standards.

Self-performed construction allows the company to apply the same standards, leadership, and safety expectations consistently from project to project. By keeping critical scopes in-house, CANCO maintains continuity in the field and reinforces disciplined execution across different project types and locations.

For owners, self-performed work improves accountability and keeps critical scopes aligned with the project schedule.

On design-build, construction management at-risk, and general contractor projects, self-performance reduces handoff risk and helps keep crews aligned to the plan in the field. Supported by local merit-shop craftsmen and in-house capability, we self-perform approximately 40% of the work we contract annually.

Our self-performed services span multiple Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) MasterFormat divisions, allowing us to deliver the scopes that most directly impact jobsite rhythm, safety, and finish quality.
